SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Most of the people now living in the Occupy SF encampment in San Francisco are homeless, organizers and other observers say.
An activist told the San Francisco Chronicle he believes it is time for Occupy to move on and change its strategy.
"We're moving, and we're going to let this camp collapse under its own weight," Michael Clift, who has been involved with Occupy since it started in San Francisco last year, said Friday. "You've got your activists, and you've got your slack-tivists, and we need to get focused."
Clift said he wants the homeless to participate but the encampment gets in the way of the Occupy message.
"You can't have your out-of-work cousin crashing in your office all day, and unfortunately we didn't learn those lessons until late last year," he said.
City officials allow the current camp on Market Street to remain as long as it gets a daily cleaning, so the 20 to 30 occupants strike their tents once a day and move their belongings while city employees remove trash.
