SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The body of a 69-year-old California man who went missing when he apparently fell off an Amtrak train has been found in Nebraska, his family says.

Charlie Dowd, a retired San Francisco firefighter, was reported missing Sept. 14. He was traveling to visit family in Chicago, but he was not on the train when it arrived, family members said.

He spoke to his son the day before he was reported missing and said he was in Denver, CNN reported.

His luggage, cellphone and medication were found in his sleeping car.

Amtrak officials said a door of the train was found ajar and that passengers had seen Dowd acting disoriented.

A railway worker found the body in Haigler, Neb., the family said.
