Walker on prosecution witness list

MADISON, Wis., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is included on a list of prosecution witnesses in next month's trial of his former deputy chief of staff, court documents indicate.

Kelly Rindfleisch, who worked as chief of staff when Walker was Milwaukee County executive, is scheduled to go to trial Oct. 15 on felony charges of misconduct in public office for allegedly doing work on behalf of Walker's 2010 campaign for governor from her county office.

Darlene Wink, a county employee when Walker was county executive, previously agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges of using public resources to raise funds for his gubernatorial campaign.

Walker, who retained a defense attorney in February and started a legal defense fund in March, is on a list of witnesses submitted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said.

That list includes state Medical Director Brett Davis, who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for lieutenant governor in 2010; Michael Huebsch, a Republican former state legislator who serves as state administration secretary; Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie, who worked as campaign manager for Davis; Keith Gilkes, who was Walker's 2010 campaign manager and formerly worked as the governor's chief of staff in Madison; and James Villa, who worked for a time as Walker's chief of staff and on Walker's campaigns for county executive.

A spokeswoman in the governor's office declined to comment on the inclusion of Walker's name on the prosecution witness list, the newspaper said Friday.

Kevin Kavanaugh, appointed by Walker to the Milwaukee County Veterans Service Commission, and a former Walker deputy chief of staff, Timothy D. Russell, have both been charged with embezzling more than $60,000 from a fund intended to benefit veterans, the Journal Sentinel reported in February.
