CHICAGO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak met in Chicago with Mayor Rahm Emanuel to discuss U.S.-Israeli tensions, Ynetnews reported.

Emanuel is a former White House chief of staff.

Barak's office refused to comment on the meeting, Ynetnews said Thursday. It was unclear if Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was informed of the meeting, the report said.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Emanuel and Barak have been friends for about 18 years and that the mayor often meets with foreign officials who visit Chicago.
