MIRAMAR, Fla., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A children's chorus that was barred from singing "God Bless America" at a Florida Walmart on Sept. 11 finally got to perform, officials said.
The chorus from Coconut Palm Elementary in Miramar sang the patriotic song at Bob Roth's New River Groves Wednesday afternoon, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
"Boys and girls, you see, your small voices carry very, very far," principal Terri Thelmas said before their performance. "You've touched everyone in the United States of America by the letters received from Maryland, from California, from everywhere."
On Sept. 11, the chorus was scheduled to sing at a Walmart store in Miramar, for the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, but were barred from doing so by a store employee. Police were called when they tried to sing outside the store.
Walmart publicly apologized for the incident and invited the chorus back for a performance, but the school declined.
Instead, they accepted an offer to sing at New River Groves Wednesday afternoon.
"I feel more happy today than when it was a false alarm at Walmart," said fifth-grader Gevon Bruce.
