Mother charged with stealing from Army son

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- An Ohio mother has admitted to stealing her son's income tax return while he was stationed overseas in the U.S. Army, police say.

Brewer, Ohio, police arrested Jennifer L. Fletcher, 42, for driving a stolen car. A warrant check showed she was wanted on charges of identity fraud, forgery and two counts of theft in nearby Lawrence Township.

The police chief there, Mark Brink, told the Canton (Ohio) Repository that Fletcher admitted Sunday to stealing $7,500 from her son Scott Davis's bank account. The theft came after Fletcher agreed to file her son's tax returns for him while he was serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Davis' wife reported the thefts earlier this year and police swore out a warrant for Fletcher, who had forged checks with her son's signature made out to her and deposited his $1,400 tax return in her account. Fletcher's boyfriend, Keith Hoover, 44, was also charged in the case, police said.
