LORAINE, Ohio, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Police snipers killed an armed man Saturday who was holding a woman and two children hostage in a northern Ohio house.
Lorain County sheriff's deputies went to a house based on a vague emergency call and encountered an agitated man on the front porch with a gun, WKYC-TV in Cleveland reported.
The man reportedly defied orders to drop his weapon and he fired a wild shot at the deputies.
Further information came in that a woman and two children were inside the house and deputies called for a SWAT team's assistance as they attempted to negotiate with the man.
Officers surrounded the house and were able to get the three people out of the house before reinforcements arrived, the report said.
Once the unidentified man saw the SWAT team, he opened fire. He was gunned down and declared dead at the scene, police said.
