BELLFONTE, Pa., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The Pennsylvania attorney general's office filed requests to have Jerry Sandusky classified as a violent sexual predator, court documents said.

Sandusky, former Penn State assistant football coach, was convicted June 22 on 45 counts of sexual abuse of young boys and is awaiting a sentencing hearing.

The attorney general's office presented paperwork Wednesday, asking for a hearing to present testimony before Judge John Cleland to support the request. If declared a sexually violent predator, state law would require Sandusky to register with state police as a sex offender after his prison release, although Sandusky, 68, may be imprisoned for the rest of his life, the State College Centre Daily Times reported Thursday.

Defense attorney Joe Amendola is uncertain of his client's next action, saying, "We're still evaluating how we want to proceed on this issue."
