RIVERSIDE, Calif., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Black hospital workers in California said they were the target of a racist display when someone strung up a doll with a black face and an epithet on it.

The display was found at Kaiser Hospital Riverside in Riverside, Calif., and was directed at employees in the facility's IT department. Worker Xavier Fields said whoever hung up the doll is likely an employee and did so intentionally.

"It's somebody who works within. It's a locked area. You don't go back there," Fields told KNBC-TV, Los Angeles.

Hospital officials released a statement pledging to investigate the matter, but employees said they had seen no evidence such an inquiry had been undertaken.

Saying they were stunned, Fields and other black employees in the department gave the doll to a manager rather than call police.
