MIAMI, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Hurricane Michael, still roaring out in the mid-Atlantic Ocean Saturday night, has a couple of days more life in it, U.S. forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory that the Category 2 storm was generating 100 mph winds as it headed to the north-northwest at 6 mph.
With Michael 920 miles west-southwest of the Azores, far away from any land masses, the hurricane center said no coastal watches or warnings were necessary.
The hurricane center said it expected Michael to turn toward the west Sunday, then veer back to the northwest Monday. Michel is forecast to remain a hurricane through Monday, but gradually weaken, the center said.
Michael is powerful but small by hurricane standards, with hurricane-force winds extending just 25 miles from its eye and tropical storm-force gales extending 70 miles.
