GOP: Obama 'rhetoric' fails 'realitity'

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Republicans said in the party's weekly Saturday media address that it's time for President Obama's "rhetoric to meet reality."

Noting what he called Obama's "lofty" acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., Thursday, Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming contrasted that to Friday's jobs report that fell short of expectations.

"The conventions are over now. The soaring speeches have ended. It's time for rhetoric to meet reality," he said.

The economy added only 96,000 jobs in August, lower than expected.

Unemployment dropped to 8.1 percent from 8.3 percent but the decline was attributed to workers dropping out of the job market.

"The undeniable truth is, President Obama is on track to have the worst jobs record of any president since World War II," Barrasso charged.

The United States has dropped to seventh place from first in global competitiveness, he said, attributing that to U.S. taxes "are the highest in the developed world."

"Americans know what works: low taxes, reasonable regulations, and living within our means," the senator said.

Barrasso also struck out at the president's affordable healthcare law and energy policy and the record high national debt.

"The President's policies have failed to produce the results, accountability, and solutions the American people deserve," he said. "The Obama administration is simply not moving our country forward."

The Hill reported GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was unable to sustain the bounce he received after the party's convention in Tampa, while Obama got a 3 percent increase in his approval rating, pollsters found.
