MIAMI, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Hurricane Michael weakened slightly as it chugged northwestward across the Atlantic Ocean Friday night far away from land, U.S. forecasters said.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory the small Category 2 hurricane was blowing 105 mph winds as far as 25 miles from its eye and tropical storm-force gales as much as 70 miles out.

Michael was centered about 940 miles west-southwest of the Azores, heading northwest at 6 mph.

No coastal watches or warnings were in place, the hurricane center said.

Michael was forecast to stay on the same general track and slowly weaken during the next couple of days.
