TAUNTON, Mass., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Joseph Kennedy III now faces Sean Bielat in the race for Barney Frank's 4th Congressional District seat in Massachusetts.
Kennedy, the son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy II and grandson of assassinated U.S. Sen. and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, easily won the Democratic primary Thursday night while Bielat, a businessman and former Marine who lost to Frank two years ago, won on the Republican side, GateHouse News Service reported.
"This country deserves a government as good as its people," Kennedy, a prosecutor and former Peace Corps volunteer, said in Taunton after claiming his primary victory.
With Frank retiring, Bielat said the race "represents the choice between two visions for America," GateHouse said.
"One vision -- one that has been held by the Kennedy family for more than seven decades -- states that the government is smarter than you," he said.
"My vision states that it is the citizens, individuals and families who are going to get this economy back on track. This vision holds that you are the best person to determine what your family spends money on or what decisions your business needs to make."
