Nadia Lockyer, the estranged wife of California Treasurer Bill Lockyer, saw the latest chapter in her fall from political power again make headlines in the Bay Area, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
Police went to the Orange home where Lockyer and her son Diego, 9, were staying. Acting on a tip from an informant, police suspected drugs were in the house. The subsequent search yielded suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia associated with smoking the drug, which had been stored in the room Lockyer and her son were sharing.
Police said Lockyer was under the influence of drugs at the time of her arrest.
The Mercury News noted it is the latest in a string of incidents that saw the one-time Democratic heavyweight lose power and her marriage -- and now potentially custody of her child.
Bill Lockyer divorced Nadia following news reports she'd had an affair and become addicted to drugs following a disturbance involving Nadia and her alleged lover in a Newark, N.J., hotel room. She resigned her office as Alameda County supervisor. The man involved in the dispute, Stephen Chikhani of San Jose, allegedly has attempted to sell sex tapes he made with Nadia Lockyer, the Mercury News said.
