Muslim grave vandalized in Illinois

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A Muslim section of a cemetery in Illinois was vandalized for the second time within two weeks, officials said.

One grave site, which includes a bench, tombstone and obelisk, at the Evergreen Park Cemetery has been desecrated with anti-Islamic writing scribbled in black marker last week, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.

Jessica McDunn, a spokeswoman for Evergreen Cemetery, said the same grave site has been targeted for more than a year.

Evergreen Park Police will review video surveillance from a camera that was installed after the site was vandalized two weeks before the recent incident. Officials said the markings from the most recent attacks were almost identical .

Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations' Chicago chapter, said the graffiti has upset relatives of the deceased.

"Even after he departed the world, bigotry follows him," Rehab said. "It's very violating."
