Bear captured, killed in Connecticut

MADISON, Conn., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A black bear was captured and euthanized in Madison, Conn., after showing aggressive behavior toward humans, wildlife officials said.

The bear had been spotted numerous times in recent weeks in the Madison area, prompting residents to make complaints, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported Sunday.

"The most recent incident occurred on August 28 when the bear charged at a homeowner who was watching and filming the bear through an open window in his home," the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said in a release.

The department "had also received unconfirmed reports that at least one resident had been intentionally feeding the bear," the release said. "When a bear is intentionally or unintentionally fed, it begins to associate food with people and lose its fear of humans."
