NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- A New York City woman was rushed to the hospital after her wheelchair-bound father allegedly doused her with a skin-melting drain cleaner, officials said.
Witnesses said Darlene Lynch, 49, ran out of her father's Brooklyn apartment around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, screaming for help, the New York Daily News reported.
"You could see the smoke coming off her body," Clarissa Shakespeare said. "Everyone was just traumatized and scared. Her skin looked like melting wax. And then her whole eye lid was melted. The whole left side from her face all the way down to her feet."
"My father did this!" Lynch yelled. Her father, Jerome, 69, apparently threw the drain cleaner El Diablo, which is 98 percent sulfuric acid, on her, police allege.
Emergency responders showed up and brought Darlene Lynch to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, the New York Post reported.
Jerome Lynch was arrested at the scene and charged with felony assault.
Sources told the newspaper the father admitted doing it because his daughter had abused him.
