TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Hollywood isn't filled with just liberals, actor/director Clint Eastwood told Republicans gathered in Tampa, Fla. -- Republicans just aren't as flashy.

"The conservative people, like the name, play it a little more close to the vest," Eastwood said Thursday at the Republican National Convention. "They don't go around hot-doggin.'"

Four years ago, President Obama won the election on hope and change, and Eastwood, a former mayor of Carmel, Calif., admitted he cried.

However, 23 million people unemployed or underemployed "is something to cry for," the multiple Academy Award winner said. "That is a disgrace, a national disgrace. And [the Obama administration] hasn't done enough to take care of that."

Possibly, he said, it could be time for someone else to step in.

"I just think there's so much to be done," Eastwood said. "I think that Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan are two guys that could" effect change.

He reminded the audience that "politicians are employees of ours" and that "we own this country."

And "when somebody doesn't do the job, we've got to let them go," Eastwood said as a chant of "let them go" filled the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Answering a shout-out from the audience, Eastwood said, "OK, you want to make my day, huh?"

"I'll start it: Go ahead ... ," Eastwood said.

" ... Make my day," the crowd responded.
