McDonnell: America needs 'dynamic change'

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- New leadership in Washington is needed to get the country out of debt and back to work, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell said at the Republican National Convention.

"The choice is clear -- the status quo of the entitlement society, or dynamic change to an opportunity society," McDonnell told GOP conventioneers at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Fla.

"We need a president who will say to a small businesswoman: congratulations, we applaud your success, you did make that happen, you did build that," he said. "Big government didn't build America: You built America!"

Too many Americans are unemployed or underemployed because Obama's policies "simply haven't worked," McDonnell said.

"Washington today has a surplus of rhetoric, and a deficit of leadership and results," he said.

Small businesses, McDonnell said, "don't come out of Washington D.C. pre-made on flat bed trucks ... [but] were all built by entrepreneurial Americans with big dreams."

"Now, just think what we can do if we had a president who would support us, not obstruct us," McDonnell said. "We need President Mitt Romney."

Romney will work with governors from both parties across the country and will "get people back to work," McDonnell said.

Americans deserves the chance of a limited, responsible government that performs its core functions well, "then gets the heck out of their way," McDonnell said.

"That's when good things happen."
