JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- A Florida man who has been living as someone else for more than 20 years and used false IDs to access military bases has received a 10-year prison term.
Federal prosecutors say they are not sure who the man really is, the (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reported. He was charged, tried and convicted as John Doe, a.k.a. "Leroy Mayers," "Leroy Meyers" and "L.T.H."
Doe, who was sentenced Monday, was indicted in 2011.
Investigators say the defendant obtained at least 23 government-issued identification documents -- including a passport, replacement Social Security cards and ID cards -- as an employee of a contractor at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville. He worked at the naval station starting in 2010.
Doe was not charged with any terrorism-related offenses. He was convicted in May of aggravated ID theft, using a false Social Security number and passport fraud.
"John Doe has expressed no remorse for his actions and continued to perpetrate the fraud through his perjurious testimony at trial," federal prosecutors said in a pre-sentencing statement.
