NANTUCKET, Texas, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A Texas woman told authorities she was trying to shoot a skunk with a handgun when she accidentally shot her husband instead.

The (College Station) Eagle reported the husband, who had been hit in the abdomen, was rushed by helicopter to Hermann Hospital in Houston. His condition was unknown and Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk said both the husband and wife's identities were being withheld.

Officials said the couple's children were at the Nantucket home at the time of the shooting late Sunday. It was unclear, however, if any of the children actually witnessed the shooting.
