LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Los Angeles firefighters sent to the scene of a plane crash Saturday said they found the aircraft impaled on a wrought iron fence and its two occupants alive.
The two-seat, single-engine plane came down just before noon in Los Angeles' Pacoima neighborhood not far from Whiteman Airport, striking the top of a brick wall between two businesses, the fire department said in a release. The plane's 65 horsepower engine had completely separated from the fuselage and some of its 5 gallons of gasoline had spilled, but there was no fire, the department said.
Two vehicles and a building awning also were damaged, but no one on the ground was hurt, the department said.
Civilians who got to the scene first helped remove one man from the plane and fire department personnel got the second man out.
Both victims are about 65 year old. One was hospitalized in serious condition and the other in fair condition.
It wasn't known what caused the plane to crash.
