Clinton ad touts Obama's middle class plan

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Former President Bill Clinton cut an ad for President Obama's re-election campaign to sell the message that Obama's policies help build a strong middle class.

In the ad released Thursday, Clinton says "the election, to me, is about which candidate is more likely to return us to full employment."

"This is a clear choice," Clinton says in the "Clear Choice" spot. "The Republican plan is to cut more taxes on upper-income people and go back to deregulation. That's what got us in trouble in the first place."

The 30-second ad airs in eight swing states.

"President Obama has a plan to rebuild America from the ground-up -- investing in innovation, education and job training," Clinton said. "That's what happened when I was president. We need to keep going with his plan."

Republicans, including presumptive party presidential nominee Mitt Romney, said the policies of Clinton and Obama differ wildly, The Hill said. The GOP also charged that Obama eviscerated work requirements included in the legislation Clinton signed in 1996.

Clinton said that charge is "not true."
