CAMDEN, N.J., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A New Jersey woman killed herself early Wednesday after decapitating her 2-year-old son, police said.
A spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Chevonne Thomas, 33, called 911 just after midnight and said her son was dead, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post reported. She stabbed herself after police arrived at the house, prosecutor's spokesman Jason Laughlin said.
Police found Zahree Thomas' body in a pool of blood on the ground floor of the house, Laughlin said. The 2-year-old's head was in the freezer.
Thomas was on the phone upstairs, and officers did not go up because they were unsure if she was armed.
In the 911 call, Thomas first suggested her boyfriend had killed her son but then said she had done it, investigators said.
Officials said Thomas lost custody of Zahree when the boy was 11 months old after admitting she left him alone in a car while she smoked marijuana and PCP. She got the boy back in April.
