ATLANTA, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Two Georgia mothers say they were terrified when their schoolchildren didn't get off at their stop but were happy to find the 5-year-olds asleep on the bus.

The moms became upset when their children didn't get off at their DeKalb County bus stop, and the bus driver said they weren't aboard, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

The driver passed Shawna Blackwood and her sister-in-law, Adelaide Blackwood, without stopping as the women waited to greet their children at the end of their first day of school on Aug. 13.

The women called the school principal, who ordered the driver to return to the Blackwoods' stop. The driver already had a load of older students when she returned. She insisted she had checked the bus after the previous run, but the Blackwood children weren't to be found.

Adelaide Blackwood got on the bus and found her son, Joshua, next to Shawna Blackwood's daughter, Giselle Blake. Both of them were napping, oblivious to their mothers' worries.

Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson suspended the driver pending the results of an investigation.
