WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Republicans, paced by Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, dominated The Hill's annual list of the 50 wealthiest lawmakers, the Washington publication said.

McCaul retained the top spot as the richest member of Congress, The Hill said Tuesday. McCaul reported a minimum net worth of $290.5 million for 2011.

Thirty-one members on the list are Republican.

Thirty-one of the lawmakers on The Hill's list are House members and 19 are senators.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, at No. 37, is the only Republican leader to be included in the Top 50.

Second to McCaul is Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who reported a net worth of at least $198.8 million for 2011. He topped The Hill's wealthiest list in 2009 and 2010 before being bumped by McCaul last year.

In third place was Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who had at least $140.6 million in 2011, The Hill said.

The Hill said two people, both Democrats, cracked the Top 50. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine ranked 12th, reporting $31.8 million last year. Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon returned to the list at No. 22 with a minimum net worth of $14.5 million.

Presumptive GOP vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin reported having a net worth of at least $2.2 million, a modest sum among members of Congress.

The Hill said it reviewed lawmakers' 2011 calendar-year financial disclosure to help calculate the rankings.
