NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- New York City's bike-share program will be delayed until spring, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said Friday on his morning radio program.

Bloomberg attributed the delay to software problems, saying, "We are not going to put out the system until it works," adding that by the spring, "hopefully the software will work."

Under the original plan, contractor Alta Bicycle Share was to begin a partial rollout of rental bicycles this summer, and expand to 10,000 bicycles and 600 rental stations around the city by the summer of 2013, The New York Times reported Friday.
