NORTH CANTON, Ohio, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Likely Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan accused President Obama of failing to deal with China during a speech Thursday in Ohio.

The Wisconsin congressman addressed supporters at Walsh University in North Canton, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported. Ryan was in Ohio Wednesday as part of a Republican push in an important swing state.

Ohio has suffered from the loss of manufacturing jobs. Ryan said China has been manipulating its currency and violating intellectual property agreements to get those jobs.

"We come from manufacturing states," Ryan said. "We make things, we grow things. Free trade is a powerful tool for peace and prosperity. But our trading partners need to play by the rules."

Ryan said Obama, after promising to "go to the mat" with China during the 2008 campaign, did not deliver.

He also accused Obama of running on "frustration and anger."
