FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania state Rep. Joseph Brennan, a Democrat, has been arrested and charged with beating his wife and drunken driving, officials said.
Brennan allegedly choked and punched his wife on the porch of their home in Fountain Hill Wednesday afternoon, The Allentown (Pa.) Morning Call reported.
He then got in his car and drove away, police said.
When police caught up with Brennan a short time later, they gave him a preliminary field sobriety test, which showed Brennan had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, more than twice the legal limit, officials said. He was arrested and charged with assault and drunken driving.
Brennan was released Wednesday night on $7,500 bail. Stipulations of his bail included having no contact with his wife Norma Jean, and to submit to a drug and alcohol evaluation and to follow all recommendations for treatment.
In 2011, Brennan was charged with drunken driving in Bethlehem and admitted into a first-offenders program.
