NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Helicopters, SWAT teams and state troopers were searching Thursday for whoever shot and killed two Louisiana sheriff's deputies and wounded two others.
A state police official described the attack on the officers as an ambush, CNN reported.
The deputies from St. John the Baptist Parish were shot about 6 a.m. EDT while on traffic duty at the Bayou Steel Plant in LaPlace, said Louisiana State Police Sgt. Ann Dusang.
A reason for the shooting is not yet known.
It was not known how many assailants were involved in the shooting.
The wounded deputies were hospitalized.
