TACOMA, Wash., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A young woman who said she hates men Tuesday faced charges in a shooting at a grocery store in Washington state that left three men wounded.

The woman allegedly wanted to kill someone before she committed suicide, The (Tacoma) News Tribune reported.

Laura K. Sorenson, 20, of Gig Harbor, who has a history of mental illness, said she hated men because she had been molested as a child, police said.

Sorenson pleaded not guilty Monday to two charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault, and was jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bond.

Police said the woman walked into a Peninsula Market grocery near Wauna Saturday afternoon and shot three men at random.

A woman who entered the store after shots were fired held Sorenson down until police arrived while other customers tended to the wounded: three men ages 20, 40 and 78.

The 40-year-old man was listed in critical condition Monday night at a local hospital with injuries to his right arm, chest and back. The 78-year-old was shot in the leg and the 20-year-old was wounded in the leg by shrapnel.
