5 hurt in stagecoach crash at Indiana fair

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A stagecoach crash at the Indiana State Fair injured five passengers just a year after a stage collapse at the fair killed seven people, officials said.

The six-horse stagecoach was carrying six people -- including the unharmed driver and 2011 Indiana State Fair queen Erika Elaine Burghardt -- when it tipped over on a turn in the Coliseum Sunday, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Fair spokesman Andy Klotz said the five injured were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Burghardt was the only rider identified.

"The driver of the coach has more than 20 years of stagecoach driving experience and kept his team of six horses under control after the coach tipped," Klotz said in a statement. "He was examined by the medical team on site and had no injuries."

Seven people were killed and dozens were injured last Aug. 13 when high winds blew over the stage at the Indiana State Fair.
