CHICAGO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- President Obama resumed his weekend fundraising trip to his home base of Chicago on Sunday with three events on his schedule.

He arrived in the Windy City on Saturday at spent the night at his home in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood.

Events Sunday include two standard high-priced meet-and-greets as well as a budget event at the Bridgeport Art Center where the president and some of his younger supporters will get together for $51 per ticket.

The Chicago Tribune said Obama's busy schedule reflects a midsummer fundraising surge by Republican opponent Mitt Romney, who raised $101 million in July compared to $75 million by the president.

Obama has acknowledged in his fundraising solicitations that he will probably be outspent by Romney but said he can close the gap with a "truly grassroots campaign."
