TROY, Mich., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Police in Troy, Mich., said Thursday they have charged a 21-year-old man in the killing of his father, even as searchers looked for the father's body.
The Detroit News said law enforcement officers combed fields and woods in northern Genesee County, Mich., for the body of Patrick J. Mikes.
At the same time, Patrick J. Mikes Jr. appeared for formal charging in District Court, the newspaper said, at a hearing attended by his sister and maternal grandparents.
An attorney pleaded not guilty for him, and Mikes is scheduled to appear Aug. 27 for a preliminary exam hearing.
Mikes had been on a scholarship studying psychology and pre-med at Notre Dame, the News said, but instead is facing up to life in prison if convicted.
Earlier this month, the younger Mikes was charged with using his teenage brother's credit card, the newspaper said, and one theory is that the charges led to a bloody argument with the senior Mikes in the basement of the family home in Homewood.
