CHICAGO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk released a video showing the progress that he's made since he suffered a stroke in January.

The video, released Sunday, was intended to inform voters of the senator's recovery and let them know that Kirk, R-Ill., is no longer an inpatient at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago but is back at his home, the Chicago Tribune reported.

"I released this video to make sure that people know what my condition is, to be an example to other Illinois families that may, unfortunately, have to survive a stroke," Kirk says in the three-minute video.

He also said he talks with his staff and other lawmakers "several times a day" about key issues.

Kirk, however, made no mention of when he hopes to return to Washington and his staff has not commented on the subject.
