Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty

WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- About $75 million was raised in July for President Barack Obama's election campaign, the Democratic National Committee said.
That's far less than Republican rival Mitt Romney, who pulled in $101 million during the same period, The Washington Post reported.
It's the third month in a row that fundraising by GOP supporters has exceeded that of the Democrats.
Republican-leaning political action committees have been aggressively recruiting donations for Romney.
About 98 percent of the money received by the DNC was from donors who gave $250 or less, the Obama campaign said. An average donation was $53.
The smaller donation amounts mean that supporters will be able to donate again in August and September.
