CHICAGO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan's latest request to overturn his conviction was again denied Monday by a federal appeals court in Chicago.
A three-judge panel in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against him in a 16-page ruling, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.
Ryan's next legal move could be an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but former Gov. James Thompson, Ryan's lawyer and longtime political ally, said Ryan's legal team had not yet made that decision.
Ryan has served nearly five years of a six and one-half year sentence for racketeering and fraud and is scheduled to be released from prison in July 2013, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons said.
