Bashara to testify, former attorney says

DETROIT, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Robert Bashara, of Gross Pointe Park, Mich., will likely be charged in his wife's murder, his former lawyer said.

Bashara wants to testify in trials involving his wife's death and his alleged attempt to silence the man he reputedly hired to kill her, attorney David Griem told the Detroit News.

"He's always had the desire to have his story told. It's his intent to take the witness stand and tell his story," said Griem, who was allowed to withdraw from representing Bashara Tuesday.

Bashara's trial on charges of solicitation of murder, that he attempted to hire someone to kill Jospeh Gentz, was delayed Tuesday until Aug. 7, when his new attorney, Mark Kriger, can appear in Wayne County, Mich., Circuit Court, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday. Gentz is charged in the January 2012 strangulation death of Bashara's wife, Barbara.
