PHOENIX, July 31 (UPI) -- A Phoenix woman has been arrested in the killing and dismemberment of her mother, police said Tuesday.
Carol Hatley, 42, gave a statement to police and was arrested on one count of second-degree murder of her mother, Deborah Hatley, 73, Phoenix Police Department spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said.
Police responded to the mother's home after a report of a deceased person. The mother was found with trauma to her body, and the younger woman allegedly was in the process of dismembering the body, the Arizona Republic reported.
A neighbor, Regina Martinez said Carol Hatley came to her home to call 911 at about 3:30 A.M. Tuesday, adding that Hatley was drunk.
"She just said her mother had passed and that she was dead, and that she (Carol Hatley) needed some help. She was not all bloody. She was drunk," Martinez said.
Phoenix police said they found trash bags, apparently to be used to dispose of the body, in the home.
