DETROIT, July 28 (UPI) -- Investigators say two bodies found in a vacant lot in Detroit appear to be those of two teenagers who vanished a week ago after visiting a relative.

The bodies had not been positively identified as Jacob Kudla, 18, and Jourdan Bobbish, 17, The Detroit News reported. Police were waiting for dental records to confirm their identities.

Kudla and Bobbish, who live in Westland about 16 miles west of Detroit, drove to the city Sunday to visit Kudla's uncle, Richard Baxter, on Detroit's east side, and left his home at about 11 p.m. Kudla's stripped car was discovered Monday on the west side of Detroit, and two men who police said had items taken from the vehicle were arrested.

A man looking for scrap metal found the bodies in tall grass Friday morning.

"It was terrible; it smelled gruesome," William Kokenos told the News. "The first thing I thought of was, 'It's those two kids from Westland.' It was pretty nasty; you could tell by the way they were kneeling exactly what had happened. It was like they were praying ... kissing the ground."

Investigators said the two men in the field had apparently been forced to remove their shirts, pants and shoes and then to kneel down. They were shot execution style.

Vergie Kudla told the Detroit Free Press she believed her son was carjacked soon after he left his uncle's house.
