LOS ANGELES, July 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Coast Guard seized about 8,500 pounds of marijuana worth $7.7 million from a panga boat 160 miles off the coast of Los Angeles.

The Coast Guard's Wednesday bust is the latest in an increased crackdown on drug trafficking and has led to 56 waterborne seizures and 50 tons of marijuana worth $90.7 million since October 2011, KTLA-TV reported.
