Romney campaign keeps up attack on Obama

WASHINGTON, July 26 (UPI) -- The Romney campaign continued its attack Thursday on President Obama's remark that successful people in the United States got a boost from government programs.

A Web video features small business owners with the theme: "Built by us." The campaign asked other business owners to come forward.

"We've all heard how little President Obama values small businesses," the invitation said. "Now, it's your turn. Share your story and tell President Obama that you did build it."

In the video, various business owners describe the history of their ventures and say they did not receive help.

Another Web video features a quote from a speech the president recently made: "We tried our plan -- and it worked. That's the difference. That's the choice in this election. That's why I'm running for a second term."

The quote, according to the online magazine Slate, is redacted from a much longer statement: "I'll cut out government spending that's not working, that we can't afford, but I'm also going to ask anybody making over $250,000 a year to go back to the tax rates they were paying under Bill Clinton, back when our economy created 23 million new jobs, the biggest budget surplus in history and everybody did well. Just like we've tried their plan, we tried our plan -- and it worked. That's the difference. That's the choice in this election. That's why I'm running for a second term."
