AURORA, Colo., July 25 (UPI) -- The wife of a man critically injured in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting gave birth as her husband remained in a medically induced coma.

Katie Medley, the wife of shooting victim Caleb Medley, gave birth to Hugo Jackson Medley at 7:11 a.m. Tuesday at the University of Colorado Hospital, The Denver Post reported. Both mother and child are healthy, the hospital said.

The Medleys were at the showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Century Aurora 16 multiplex when police say James Eagan Holmes shot into the crowd early Friday, killing 12 and injuring 58. Caleb Medley was shot in the head, lost an eye and suffered brain damage. Doctors put him into a medically induced coma.

Katie Medley was uninjured.

"Katie brought the baby into the room and Caleb's blood pressure went up," friend Michael West said. "She put the baby near his arms and his pulse went up."

"We know that Caleb will get better and he won't stay out of that child's life," said Seth Medley, 21, Caleb Medley's brother, adding it may take years for his brother to recover.
