Homeowner and gardener attacked by bees

INDIO, Calif., July 25 (UPI) -- A man and woman in Indio, Calif., were stung by bees 80 and 100 times, respectively, in the woman's backyard, authorities said.

The man, a gardener, was trimming a palm tree Tuesday when bees, swarming on the trunk of the tree, attacked him, and the woman, the homeowner, was stung when she came outside to help him, said Matthew Kotz of the Riverside County, Calif., Fire Department.

Two other gardening workers were also stung, but less severely, the Palm Springs, Calif., Desert Sun reported Wednesday.

Firefighters sprayed foam on the tree to subdue the bees. The victims were largely stung on their heads and torsos, and were hospitalized for treatment of moderate injuries, a Fire Department spokesman said.
