WASHINGTON, July 23 (UPI) -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama heads the presidential delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London this week.

As part of her visit, Obama will host a Let's Move! event for about 1,000 U.S. military children, and U.S. and British students, the White House said in a release Monday.

The opening ceremony for the London games is Friday.

Co-sponsored by cable network Nickelodeon and the U.S. State Department, Let's Move! London will feature sports stations, performances and chances for the kids to meet Olympic and Paralympic greats, the White House said.

Obama will be accompanied by Olympic and Paralympic medalists. While in London, Obama and the delegation will meet with U.S. athletes competing in the games and encourage American children to be active in their daily lives.
