Indianapolis falcon found dead

INDIANAPOLIS, July 22 (UPI) -- A well-known falcon that was living in downtown Indianapolis was found dead after it apparently flew into a building, officials said.

The 19-year-old Peregrine falcon, named Kinney, was found dead Friday, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Officials will determine whether Kinney's remains can be used as an educational taxidermy mount.

Kinney was first spotted flying around Indianapolis in 1994 and he began nesting there in 1995. Since then, he has fathered 61 offspring.

Although why Kinney flew into the building may never be known, the raptor "beat the odds" making it to 19 years old, as most falcons rarely live longer than seven years, said falcon blogger Laura James-Reim.
