Teacher suspected of breaking into house

July 20, 2012 at 1:21 PM

MIAMI, July 20 (UPI) -- A Florida kindergarten teacher was arrested for allegedly trying to break into the same house three times in three months, officials said.

Witnesses called police when they saw a woman, identified as Reina Herrera, 32, near a Miami house on Tuesday, The Miami Herald reported.

When police arrived, Herrera admitted she had broken into the same house on May 10 and 17, although it was unclear whether she knew someone who lived there, an arrest affidavit shows.

During the first incident, she allegedly took $3,500 from the home, and the second time she stole an engagement ring worth $1,000, a pearl necklace worth $500, and $1,000 in cash, the affidavit states.

In the recent incident, police found three bags holding what they suspected to be heroin, a needle, a spoon, and a tourniquet inside Herrera's car.

She was arrested and appeared in court Wednesday, where her bail was set at $23,000.
