Man arrested after chase by deputies

LANCASTER, Calif., July 20 (UPI) -- A man who allegedly broke into two California apartments, jumped from a second-floor window, then entered another apartment while fleeing police was arrested.

The chase in Lancaster, north of Los Angeles, began about 11 a.m. Thursday when deputies saw Juan Moreno, who was wanted for auto theft, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Moreno ran into an apartment building and forced his way into two units, jumped from the window of one unit and ran on the street.

Deputies with a search dog found Moreno inside a third apartment where he was bitten by the dog and arrested, authorities said.

Moreno, who was arrested on suspicion of auto theft and burglary, was treated at a hospital for dog bites and injuries he suffered jumping from the window.

He was taken to the jail at the Lancaster sheriff's station.
