GLENDORA, Calif., July 13 (UPI) -- A Glendora, Calif., doctor was arrested for giving narcotic painkillers to an undercover officer who showed him a dog's X-ray and complained of back pain.
Police raided Dr. Rolando Atiga's clinic Thursday and arrested him for improperly prescribing addictive medications to people who do not need them, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Atiga, 69, offered multiple narcotic painkillers -- including Vicoden, Valium and Xanex -- to the undercover sheriff's deputy who showed him a dog's X-ray. He also identified specific bones on the X-ray as parts of the human anatomy.
Glendora police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Health Authority Law Enforcement Task Force have been investigating Atiga for two months. He wrote prescriptions for three undercover deputies. Police said Atiga solicited money for the prescriptions.
Atiga was released from custody Thursday afternoon. Police said they will investigate the case further and charges from the district attorney's office are pending.
