NEW YORK, July 12 (UPI) -- The family of a missing 26-year-old New York woman received an ominous text message from her phone hours after she left her home and never returned.
Rajwinder Kaur left her home in Hollis, Queens, around 8 p.m. Sunday headed for Brooklyn, to volunteer with the homeless. Two hours later, the New York Daily News reported her sister received a chilling text message.
"It said 'The girl with this phone is dead was smiling,'" said Lucky Kaur, 29. "This text really scared us."
Rajwinder has not been seen since.
Police have reason to believe Rajwinder joined a cult. While they would not elaborate why they thought so, they noted she had recently sold her possessions on eBay.
"No definitely not," Lucky Kaur said. "She's just the kind of person who selflessly gives ... what got us worried is she always comes home. She never stayed over anywhere."
